Of Mice and Men
Set against the dust-blown backdrop of Depression-era California, this adaptation follows two itinerant workers whose bond is equal parts caretaking and companionship. George is a sharp, weary protector determined to shield his companion, a large man with an intellectual disability whose childlike trust and immense strength make both tenderness and trouble inevitable. Hired at a remote ranch, they cling to a shared dream of owning a small piece of land, a promise that keeps them moving through the loneliness of transient labor.
Their fragile hope collides with a harsh world of rough men, simmering cruelty, and escalating misunderstandings, and the film builds toward a quietly devastating conclusion that tests the limits of loyalty. Poignant performances and a spare, compassionate direction underscore themes of friendship, isolation, and the fragility of human aspiration, leaving a lingering sense of sorrow and empathy.
