When a mysterious Carpathian noble calling himself Count Alucard arrives in America at the invitation of a young heiress, his old-world charisma and secretive habits unsettle the genteel life she knows. His strange fascination with the "virile" soil of the New World and the quiet, predatory manner in which he insinuates himself into her circle turn a fragile courtship into something darker, where desire and danger blur beneath moonlit nights and shadowed halls.
