Early Spring
In postwar Tokyo, a young salaryman drifts through the rhythms of office life and the rituals of marriage, his relationship with his wife diminished into routine and quiet resignation. Seeking a break from the emotional numbness, he enters an affair that promises excitement but soon reveals itself as another form of escape rather than a cure. The affair complicates his loyalties and exposes the fragility of the bonds he has long taken for granted.
The film unfolds with a calm, observant sorrow, tracing how social expectations and personal inertia corrode intimacy. Small gestures, unspoken tensions, and the workaday backdrop of the city accumulate into a portrait of alienation and longing, suggesting that the deepest conflicts are often the ones left unaddressed.
