Mischief
Set in suburban America in 1956, Mischief follows shy high school senior Jonathan as his world is upended by the arrival of the charismatic and rebellious Gene. Where Jonathan fumbles with girls, Gene moves through social circles with swagger, charm, and a knack for stirring up trouble. Their unlikely friendship opens Jonathan to new experiences, from carefree nights out to the small rebellions that define teenage life.
Gene’s magnetism teaches Jonathan hard-won lessons about confidence, desire, and the dawning complexity of adulthood. The film captures the era’s music, fashions, and youthful energy, mixing playful pranks and romantic pursuits with moments that force the boys to confront the consequences of their choices. As Jonathan finds his voice, he also learns what it means to stand up for himself and others.
At the center of Gene’s world is Bunny, the girl he truly loves, but their relationship is threatened by social barriers: Gene’s family struggles financially, and Bunny’s parents refuse to accept him. That tension tests friendships and loyalties, turning the film into a nostalgic yet honest coming-of-age story about first love, class divides, and the messy, unforgettable rites of growing up.
