Biography

L.Q. Jones, born Justus McQueen on August 19, 1927, left a lasting impact on the world of American cinema until his passing on July 9th, 2022. Hailing from Beaumont, Texas, he embarked on a diverse journey before finding his true calling in acting. After a stint in the United States Navy and pursuing law studies at the University of Texas, Jones explored various paths including stand-up comedy, professional sports, and ranching in Nicaragua. However, it was his correspondence with his college roommate, Fess Parker, that ultimately led him to Hollywood in 1954.

Making his film debut in 1955's "Battle Cry" under his birth name, Justus McQueen, it was the character name "L. Q. Jones" that he portrayed in the film that resonated with him, prompting him to adopt it as his stage name. This decision marked the beginning of a prolific acting career that spanned over five decades. Jones found his niche in the western genre, becoming a notable member of Sam Peckinpah's ensemble of actors.
