Growing up in Philadelphia, he discovered his passion for acting early on. Hicks decided to pursue his dreams and left college in 1994 to focus on his acting career full-time.

Hicks made a significant mark on Broadway with his debut in the original cast of the iconic musical Rent. His performance was praised, leading to more opportunities on stage.
