Growing up in a split household, he spent his early years with his mother in Charleston before relocating to Dallas, Texas with his father. At the age of 15, he made waves by winning the 1st Young and Modern Man Contest in 1991, showcasing his charisma and talent even at a young age.

Upon moving to Los Angeles with his mother, Whitworth kickstarted his acting career with a memorable guest appearance on the popular series "Party of Five" in 1994.
