Originally from New York City, Cypher's acting journey began with his television debut as the Prince in the 1957 production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella alongside Julie Andrews. However, he truly made his mark as Chief of Police Fletcher Daniels in the iconic series Hill Street Blues, a role that solidified his presence in the television industry from 1981 to 1987.
Apart from his memorable portrayal in Hill Street Blues, Cypher showcased his versatility by taking on various roles such as Commanding General Marcus Craig in Major Dad and Dr. Arthur Donelly in Santa Barbara. His extensive television credits also include appearances in The F.B.I., Dynasty, Marcus Welby, M.D., and Knots Landing, displaying his range as a character actor.
