Biography
Jill Marie Schoelen, born on March 21, 1963, in Burbank, California, is an American actress known for her work in the horror genre. Raised in a creative environment as the daughter of fashion designer Dorothy Schoelen, Jill's passion for acting led her to study at the Acting for Life Theatre in Burbank. She made her debut on television in the pilot episode of "Best of Times" (1981) alongside emerging talents like Nicolas Cage and Crispin Glover.
While starting her career with various films aimed at a younger audience such as "D.C. Cab" (1983) and "Hot Moves" (1984), it was her collaboration with renowned horror director Wes Craven in the TV movie "Chiller" (1985) that introduced her to the world of horror cinema. However, it was her role in the cult classic "The Stepfather" (1987) that truly showcased her talent as a scream queen, portraying a resourceful stepdaughter opposite the chilling Terry O'Quinn.
Following her success in "The Stepfather," Jill continued to explore the horror genre with films like "The Phantom of the Opera" (1989), where she starred alongside Robert Englund. After appearing in "Not Again!" (1996), Jill decided to focus on her personal life, choosing to step away from the spotlight to raise her two children with her husband, musician, and composer Anthony Marinelli. Despite facing setbacks in her career, Jill Schoelen's contributions to the horror genre have solidified her status as a beloved figure among fans of cult cinema. Her unique blend of vulnerability and strength on screen continues to captivate audiences to this day.
