Hugo Wallace Weaving, an actor of English descent, was born on April 4, 1960, in Colonial Nigeria to English parents. Despite his roots, he has called Australia home for the entirety of his illustrious career. Weaving's talent has earned him six Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Awards (AACTA) and the prestigious title of Honorary Officer of the Order of Australia.

Weaving's journey to stardom began with his portrayal of English cricket captain Douglas Jardine on the Australian television series Bodyline in 1984. His career continued to flourish in Australia, with standout performances in films like Proof (1991) and The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (1994), which earned him his first AACTA Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role. As the new millennium approached, Weaving's career skyrocketed with roles in mainstream American productions, solidifying his status as an international star.

Among his most iconic roles are Agent Smith in The Matrix trilogy (1999–2003), Elrond in The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies (2001–2003, 2012–2014), the enigmatic V in V for Vendetta (2005), and the menacing Red Skull in Captain America: The First Avenger (2011) from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

Weaving's versatility extends beyond live-action performances, as he has lent his distinctive voice to beloved characters in films like Babe (1995), Happy Feet (2006), and Happy Feet Two (2011). He also brought the villainous Megatron to life in the Transformers series (2007–2011).
